The layer-by-layer method: 7 phases in order, with very few algorithms. Finish each phase and move on when you're ready.
Hold your cube with the WHITE face down and the YELLOW face up. That way you'll be oriented just like the pictures.
Phase 1: The white cross
The white cross
Hold the cube with white on the bottom. Find an edge with white on it, look at its OTHER color and take it to the center of that same color: that's where it has to go. Nothing to memorize here, you just look and do it piece by piece.
When the phase is finished
Flipped to see the bottom
The four white edges forming a cross on the bottom, each with its side color touching its own center. If the side doesn't match, the edge is flipped even though the white looks right.
Cases
On top, above its center
White faces the ceiling and the other color is already right above the center of its own color. This is the good case: turn that face twice and the edge drops straight into the cross.
How to hold itTurn the top layer until the edge's side color sits right above its own center, with white facing the ceiling. That's the face you turn twice.
